Ooooh Irlande, qu’est-ce que tu m’as manqué! Après un merveilleux Road trip sur les terres irlandaise au mois l’année dernière, il me tardait de pouvoir enfin découvrir l’ Irlande du Nord cette année! Ceux qui me suivent sur Snapchat savent déja que je n’ai pas été déçue!

Ce pays regorge de merveilles et de surprises! Et dire que c’est là, juste à coté de chez nous! C’est marrant car j’ai eu l’occasion de voyager très loin dans ma vie, mais il y a encore tellement d’endroits merveilleux, là tout près, où je n’ai pas encore mis les pieds! C’est un peu ce que je me suis dis en allant en Suisse l’année dernier! “Mais comment ai-je fait pour ne pas prendre le temps de découvrir cet incroyable pays avant?!!”

Nous voilà donc, ma petite fiat 500 rouge et moi, sur les routes d’Irlande du Nord pour une semaine! Whoop whoop!!! Ce qui est top, c’est que L’Irlande du Nord, bin c’est pas bien grand! Contrairement à l’année dernière où j’ai fait beaucoup plus de route, cette année il n’y a pas eu une seule fois où j’ai eu à conduire plus d’une heure et demie pour me rendre d’un point à un autre.

Oooh Ireland, I’ve missed you! After having an amazing time with you on the road last year I just couldn’t wait to discover Northern Ireland this year. People who follow me on Snapchat already know that I wasn’t disappointed at all!

That country is full amazing places and surprises. Crazy to think that it is so close from home. It’s funny cause I’ve been to many places in my life, far away places, but there’s so many ones, just right here, that I haven’t take the time to explore yet! Just like Switzerland! Been there last year and couldn’t believe my eyes! Why did it take me so long to get there! But you know how it is right?! Sometimes it’s so close that it doesn’t sound exciting! Crazy how something we can be wrong!

So here we are, my cute red fiat 500 and I, ready to hit the northern ireland roads for a week! Whoop whoop!!! And what’s great with Northern Ireland, is that it’s not that big at all. I did not spend more than 1h30 on the road going from one place to another.

Voici mon itinéraire pour ceux que cela intéresse ( en anglais pour ne pas avoir à le réécrire 2 fois pas fainéante pour un sou la nana ) // Here’s my itinerary for those who might be interested : 

ITINERARY

Day 1: afternoon in Belfast
Day 2: Depart Belfast for Islangmangee / The Gobbins / Glenarm / Cushenden Caves/ Dark Edges / Sunset around Carrick-a-rede bridge/ Overnight at the Causeway Hotel. To be honest it was a bit too much for a day! I wanted to explore Glenariff Forest as well but my program was way to tight to do so.
Day 3: Sunrise at the Giant's Causeway/ Ratlin Island/ Portstewart
Day 4: Derry/Mussenden and Downhill/ Dunluce Castle/ back to Belfast
Day 5: St George's Market/ Belfast Food Tour/ exploration of belfast / Off to Newcastle/ exploration of Newcastle
Day 6: Off to Strangford/ Explorations of Game of Thrones locations with Winterfell Tours / Overnight at The Cuan

J’ai adoré ce voyage. J’y ai découvert des endroits incroyables. L’Irlande est magnifique et je compte bien y retourner l’année prochaine!

Ci dessous le temple de Mussenden, près de Castlerock, qui offre une vue incroyable sur Dowhill Strand, et qui, avec plus de onze kilomètres de long, est l’une des plages les plus étendues d’Irlande du Nord! A faire absolument! J’ai adoré prendre le temps d’explorer cet endroit et attendre que le train passe…

I loved that trip! And once again I got to discover so many amazing places. Ireland is gorgeous! Really guys! I’m definitely planning to go back next year!

Right here some photos from Mussenden, near Castlerock ( so GOT I know! ) who has an amazing view on Downhill Strand to offer! That beach ( one of the longest of Northern Ireland ) is more than 11kms long! A must do on your list! I really enjoyed wandering there and waiting for the train to come…

Mon premier jour sur la route s’est terminé en beauté. J’ai eu droit à un welcome époustouflant! Cela faisait bien longtemps que je n’avais pas assisté à un si joli couché de soleil! J’en ai pris plein la vue.

J’avais décidé de me balader le long de la côte aux alentours de Carrick-a-rede bridge et je n’ai vraiment pas été déçue!

My first day on the road ended up pretty well! I decided to wander around Carrick-a-rede bridge for sunset and I guess I was right to do so!! It’s been a while that I haven’t enjoy a sunset that much! Was pretty epic to me.

Suspendu aux falaises de basalte, sur l’étroite péninsule d’Islandmagee, directement au-dessus de la mer d’Irlande, se trouve le sentier des Gobbins. Ce dernier se situe à peine à 32 KM au dessus de belfast! Quand je vous disais qu’en Irlande du Nord rien n’est jamais bien loin..

Le sentier des Gobbins a réouvert il y a un peu moins d’un an et permet aux visiteurs de se promener le long des falaises abruptes sur des ponts suspendus tout en admirant l’incroyable paysage côtier. L’ experience ‘The Gobbins’ (compter 2h30) ne peut cependant se faire qu’avec un guide.

The Gobbins is a dramatic two-mile-long cliff-face path which combines tubular and suspension bridges, caves, steps, and tunnels carved through the rock. It has re- opened in 2015 and it’s located in Co Antrim, 32 kilometres north of Belfast on the stunning Causeway Coastal Route ( see! I told you everything was nearby in Northern Ireand! ) 

You can’t go there by yourself though. A guide will escort you on a journey along the narrow winding cliff edge path. The tour is about 2.5 hours long.

J’ai passé une journée sur Rathlin Island, qui est située au large du compté d’ Antrim. On y accède en Ferry, par le port de Ballycastle. Rathlin est une île composée d’une centaine d’ habitants uniquement et s’avère être un veritable sanctuaire pour les oiseaux. On peut observer de nombreuses colonies d’oiseaux depuis le Sea Bird center et la vue sur la côte/les falaises/le phare y est vraiment incroyable. Je m’y suis rendu dans le but de photographier des “puffins” ( je trouve leur nom bien plus sympa en anglais qu’en français ). Malheureusement ces derniers se trouvaient bien trop loin. Même avec mon 100-400mm impossible de pouvoir photographier quoi que ce soit.

Je n’ai cependant pas été déçue pour un sou! L’île est un bien merveilleux mélange de plaines, de baies et de plages. Que demander de plus?! Et à défaut de ne pas avoir pu photographier des puffins, j’ai pu y voir/photographier des groupes de phoques! Il y en à pleins sur les rochers, du coté de Mill Bay. Ils sont vraiment très facile à observer :)

I’ve spent a day on Rathlin Island. To get there you have to catch a ferry from Ballycastle Harbour. Rathlin is known for its wild beauty and maritime allure. It has only about 140 year-round residents. The island is great for birdwatching because so many birds use the island as a breeding colony. I actually decided to get there by hoping to photograph Puffins. I went to the Seabird center to get a close up view with the birds colonies but the puffins were still way too far away and even with my 100-400mm I couldn’t get any photographs of them.

I wasn’t disappointed at all though. The Island has a rare and untamed beauty. And I got to observe/photograph some cool seals instead! There’s a lot of them on the Island! You’ll find them at Mill Bay!

Les journées sont hyper longues en Irlande du Nord à cette période de l’année. Me réveiller à l’aube pour photographier le lever de soleil et être sur la route jusqu’aux dernieres lueurs du jour a donc été super éprouvant!

Seconde journée de road trip, de retour à mon hôtel ( The Causeway Hotel ) aux alentours de 23h30 je file au lit vers 1H00 du matin. Je programme mon réveil pour 4h, avec beaucoup de mal. Ce n’est jamais évident de se lever pour le sunrise, mais au final, cela en vaut tellement la peine.

Je quitte l’ hôtel aux environs de 4h30 pour me rendre à la fameuse Chaussée des Géants. Il faut compter à peu près 35 minutes de marche. Il fait nuit, je suis épuisée mais une fois lancée j’oublis vite tout ça. La marche en elle même est plutôt sympa, surtout lorsque l’on arrive aux bords des falaises. La vue en vaut vraiment la peine.

Une fois arrivée à The Giant’s causeway, j’ai l’endroit pour moi toute seule, et ça, ça vaut bien la difficulté de s’être reveillée à l’aube avec uniquement 3h de sommeil au compteur. Je prends le temps de me poser 5 minutes, de manger un petit muffin qui date de la veille ( parce que bon le breakfast c’est sacré hein ) et c’est parti pour une chouette exploration des lieux !

J’ai vraiment adoré me retrouver là, avec l’impression d’être seule au monde, alors que ce genre d’endroits est en général très touristique. C’était vraiment magique.

Days are sooo long at this time of the year in Northern Ireland! Waking up for sunrise and being on the road all day til the last rays of sun was a bit exhausting.

Day 2 of the trip, I’m checking-in at the Causeway Hotel around 11.30pm et go to bed around 1am. Wasn’t funny to set up my alarm at 4am! It’s never easy to wake up for sunrise but to me, even if it doesn’t end up to be something spectacular I always enjoy it and think it’s totally worth it.

I’m leaving the hotel at 4.30am for a 35 minutes walk towards The famous Giant’s Causeway. It’s still super dark and I’m super exhausted but as soon as I start to walk and see the view of the beautiful causeway coast, I forget about all of this! The view on this hike is beautiful.

When I make it to the Giant’s Causeway, I have the entire place for myself and this feeling of being alone in this world totally worth the pain of waking up at 4am after a 3hours night. Was pretty magical!

En route pour Porstewart pour un late lunch. J’ai un peu de mal, quand je voyage, à me dire qu’à un moment il faut tout stopper et manger! Je me retrouve donc souvent, aux alentours de 17h30 à mourir de faim et à essayer de trouver quelque chose dans l’urgence histoire de ne pas passer l’arme à gauche lol.

Je décide donc de me rendre à Harry’s Shack ( conseillé par un passant ) pour y tester leur fruits de mer. Entre nous, la nourriture y est loin d’être exceptionnelle mais la vue sur la plage et l’ambiance mérite le detour. Il pleut pourtant, mais cela n’enlève rien au charme de Porstewart. Après avoir enfin mangé je décide donc de faire une petite balade sur la plage et je me rends compte que l’ambiance y est plus que moody et que la réflection due à la pluie est fantastique! Aaaah jolie Irlande du Nord! Tu ne me déçois pas!

Off to Portstewart for a late lunch! Most of the time when I’m travelling by myself, I’m so into exploring and shooting that I forgot to eat. So I often find myself starving around 5.30pm and trying to find something to eat quickly ( which is most of the time not good at all of course ).

A nice gentleman told me about Harry’s Shack so when I started to starve on that day that’s where I decided to head to. To be honest, the food wasn’t something amazing but it wasn’t bad at all. However the place is definitely super cute and the view of the beach while having lunch definitely worth it. It was raining, but still Portstewart was extremely charming. After “lunch” I decided to wander on the beach and I realized the mood ( super cloudy with crazy reflections thanx to the rain ) was fantastic! Don’t need more to be extremely happy!!! Oooh Northern Ireland! Thank you for being so good to me!

Ahhh la fameuse allée  “The Dark Edges”!!! Cela faisait tellement longtemps que je rêvais de la voir de mes propres yeux. Cette allée est juste magique, et incroyable, et irréelle …  Cependant je ne vous cache pas que j’ai du être patiente avant de l’avoir pour moi toute seule car comme vous pouvez vous en douter elle a plutôt la cote ;-)

The famous Dark Edges!!! It’s been a while that I was dreaming to see it with my own eyes. This tree lined avenue is definitely straight from a fairy tale. It is nothing but magical…. I had to be patient to get the place for myself though cause you can imagine that those amazing trees are pretty popular…
